3/1/86 - GCW Superstars

3/1/86 - GCW Superstars (TAPED: 2/18/86)
LOCATION: Mid-Hudson Civic Center - Poughkeepsie, NY

Tonight's the night for Saturday Night Slam Masters on MTV, but we had a little business to take care here on Superstars! Gorilla Monsoon & Mark Niemiller were here for the show, letting us know we would see the Electric Dream Machine in action, as well as "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan. The World Tag Team champions are here, and in our main event, the man who almost became World champ last week, Dusty Rhodes, takes on Arn Anderson! But first to the ring for Raymond Rougeau vs. Dino Bravo!

Raymond Rougeau vs. "Canadian Strongman" Dino Bravo (w/ Jimmy Hart)

Raymond Rougeau's brother Jacques wasn't allowed at ringside because he doesn't have an official manager's license, which let Jimmy Hart cheat for Dino Bravo through. Rougeau's speed edge kept Bravo off balance as he couldn't seem to keep up with him, but the tide changed when Rougeau got himself on the top looking for a big move. Hart cut him off by jumping on the apron to cause the distraction, allowing Bravo to get to his feet and crotch Rougeau on the top rope. Bravo then hit the Side Suplex and this one was in the books.

Dino Bravo pinned Raymond Rougeau with the Side Suplex in 0:05:33.
Rating: ***

Bravo wanted to hit a second Side Suplex, but JACQUES ROUGEAU ran out and sent him from the ring with a dropkick, much to the crowd's delight.

The Electric Dream Machine (w/ Precious) vs. Rusty Brooks/Johnny K9

The Electric Dream Machine decided they liked their new sparkly jackets so much that they weren't going to take them off for the match. It was abrasive and distracting. But they won, so knowing them, they're probably wear it all the time now.

The Electric Dream Machine (Jimmy Garvin and Steve Regal) defeated Rusty Brooks and Johnny K9 when J. Garvin pinned K9 with the DDT in 0:02:47.
Rating: 1/4*

Monsoon sent us back to Lord Alfred Hayes who was standing by with Rick Martel. Hayes congratulated Martel on being named the #1 contender for the World Title at Super Cade II. Martel thanked Hayes and said that he has worked long and hard for this chance and he will not let it slip by. Lord Alfred reminded Martel that it will be King Kong Bundy & Bobby Heenan who get to pick the stipulations for the match during tonight's contract signing. Martel said he'd be a fool not to be worried somewhat because the entire Heenan Family are devious, but he assured Hayes and everyone at home that if they tried anything funny tonight, he had a big surprise in store for them.

"Hacksaw" Jim Duggan vs. Bob Wade

Jim Duggan continues to roll along. During the match, Monsoon & Niemiller speculated about what Hacksaw's role might be at Super Cade. Niemiller suggested being locked in a zoo.

Jim Duggan pinned Bob Wade with the Three Point Stance in 0:02:22.
Rating: 1/4*

Non-Title Match
Sgt. Slaughter/Stan Hansen (World Tag Team champions) vs. Chuck Simpson/Bob Bradley

This match featured an insert promo from the champs where Stan Hansen described, in vivid detail, what Sgt. Slaughter was going to do to Robert Gibson tonight at Saturday Night Slam Masters. The injuries Hansen described were so specific that even Slaughter looked a little disturbed.

Sgt. Slaughter and Stan Hansen defeated Chuck Simpson and Bob Bradley when Slaughter pinned Bradley after a clothesline in 0:03:07.
Rating: 1/4*

"Mean" Gene Okerlund filed today's Live Event Report from the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Phoenix, AZ, the site of tonight's Saturday Night Main Event. He ran down the card, which will feature Chavo Guerrero vs. The Barbarian, The Road Warriors vs. The Hart Foundation, Wahoo McDaniel & Barry Windham vs. Tully Blanchard & Arn Anderson, and Robert Gibson meeting Sgt. Slaughter with a shot at the World Tag Team Titles on the line. Okerlund focused mostly on the big contract signing scheduled with World champ King Kong Bundy & #1 contender Rick Martel, where we will find out what stipulation Bundy has chosen for the match. Martel has also promised a surprise for Bundy & Bobby Heenan if they get out of line tonight.

Tomorrow night we then head north of the border to Toronto, Ontario, Canada and the Maple Leaf Gardens for a big live event. Here is what is on the books so far for that show. Intercontinental champion Ted DiBiase defends his title against Shiro Koshinaka. The Rougeau Brothers get the chance of a lifetime when they take on World Tag Team champions Sgt. Slaughter & Stan Hansen with the titles on the line. Koko B. Ware takes on The Barbarian, while Chavo Guerrero meets "Adorable" Adrian Adonis. And just signed, The Road Warriors will have a second tough task this weekend when they go up against The Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff of the Foreign Legion.

Then on Monday, April 7, Los Angeles will play host to the biggest wrestling event in history, Super Cade II! As we know, the main event will be King Kong Bundy defending the World Title against Rick Martel in a match with stipulations we will know later tonight. We also will have a 6-man Flag Match between Corporal Kirchner, Junkyard Dog, & Koko B. Ware taking on The Iron Sheik, Nikolai Volkoff, & Shiro Koshinaka. And the other match signed is the Battle of the Giants between Andre the Giant and Big John Studd. We got a promo from Studd & Bobby Heenan where they declared that just as quickly as Andre comes back, he will be put right back on the shelf by the man who injured him in the first place, Big John Studd.

"The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes vs. "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson (w/ Bobby Heenan)

Dusty Rhodes was so close to winning the World Title last week on this program, but fell just a little bit short. He had a match with another member of the Heenan Family, "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson, and you could tell the Dream was wrestling motivated. Anderson is one of the best technical wrestlers in the game and he was trying to systematically pick Rhodes about, but Dusty refused to stay down, always finding a way to get some separation. Rhodes blocked the Gourdbuster late en route to hitting the Bionic Elbowdrop to get the win.

Dusty Rhodes pinned Arn Anderson with the Bionic Elbowdrop in 0:08:09.
Rating: *** 1/4

Gorilla Monsoon grabbed a quick interview with Rhodes before we went off the air. Rhodes said that not winning last week has left a sour taste in his mouth as he knows he can take the World Title from King Kong Bundy. That's why Rhodes wanted one more match. He was looking straight at Bobby Heenan when he said he wanted to face Bundy for the World Title tomorrow night in Toronto. Heenan came over laughing, asking Rhodes what made him think he deserved another shot. The Dream said he was so confident that he would win that he would put his career on the line, Dusty said if he doesn't walk out World champion, he would leave Global Championship Wrestling! This made the Brain light up like a Christmas tree as he accepted, and now we have a gigantic World Title match in place for Toronto!

Next week on Superstars, be sure to join us as we will have the fallout from Slam Masters and Toronto, as well as some great wrestling action to boot. Ted DiBiase is in action, as well as Big John Studd! The Mexican Eagles will take on the team of The Barbarian & Adrian Adonis, and Wahoo McDaniel will have one final shot to capture the Television Title when he takes on Tully Blanchard 1-on-1!
