August 17, 1963 - Madison Square Garden - New York, NY

The Golden Grahams (Eddie Graham and Dr. Jerry Graham) defeated Edouard Carpentier and Pedro Morales when Dr. J. Graham defeated Morales when Morales passed out in the Sleeperhold in 0:21:54.
Rating: **** 1/2

The Golden Grahams got the tag team match they wanted and gained (in their minds) a small measure of revenge against Edouard Carpentier for him beating Dr. Jerry in his debut match last month. Carpentier chose Pedro Morales as his partner, which was a great choice. Morales had that Latin fire burning at full blast, but the inexperience of Carpentier & Morales as a team allowed the Grahams to get the win.

Johnny Valentine pinned Argentina Apollo with the Brain Buster in 0:17:24.
Rating: ** 1/2

Johnny Valentine said he was the better man of his former team with Argentina Apollo, and at least on this night, he proved it. Valentine got the win over Apollo with the Brain Buster.

Antonino Rocca and Miguel Perez defeated Crusher & Bruiser (The Crusher and Dick the Bruiser) when Rocca made Bruiser submit to the Argentine Backbreaker in 0:14:35.
Rating: ** 1/2
(Antonino Rocca and Miguel Perez retained the GCW World Tag Team Titles.)

The fans didn't know who to root for as the popular World Tag Team champions Antonino Rocca & Miguel Perez put the titles on the line against The Crusher & Dick the Bruiser. Both teams are on friendly terms but that didn't stop them from going at each other tooth and nail. The battle tonight would go to the undefeated champions in a tough fight. I for one would love to see these two teams go at it again.

Bill Watts and Bruno Sammartino defeated Ernie Ladd and Mark Lewin when Watts pinned Ernie Ladd with the Oklahoma Stampede in 0:10:21.
Rating: *** 1/4

Bruno Sammartino may no longer be the World champion, but he is still on top of his game and looking to settle some old scores with Ernie Ladd namely. Bruno teamed with his friend Bill Watts, who was looking to get some revenge of his own on Mark Lewin. This night would belong to Bruno & Watts who got the duke.

Danny Hodge defeated Gene Kiniski by countout in 0:16:47.
Rating: * 3/4
(Gene Kiniski retained the GCW United States Title.)

Danny Hodge wants the United States Title back, but he thus far hasn't been able to make that happen. He had another shot tonight against Gene Kiniski, but Kiniski's new manager Abdullah Farouk made sure that didn't happen. When Farouk saw his man getting close to losing the title, he called him out of the ring and walked him to the back for a countout. He lost the winner's share of the purse, but retained the US Title.

We had a 16-man battle royal next which was won by Killer Kowalski, who made 4 eliminations en route to winning, lastly taking out The Sheik. It also saw the GCW debut of Don Leo Jonathan, who impressed everyone with his performance tonight, also eliminating 4 men. Jonathan is a big strong guy who is someone to look for in GCW.

Lou Thesz defeated Freddie Blassie when Freddie Blassie passed out in a figure-four leglock in 0:11:38.
Rating: *** 3/4
(Lou Thesz retained the GCW World Title.)

A good main event as Lou Thesz made his first World Title defense against one of wrestling's most hated and a man Thesz has had months worth of problems with, "Classy" Freddie Blassie. It looked like on a few occasions Blassie was going to sneak his way to the title, but Thesz retained the gold.

Card rating: ***
