August 3, 1971 - Madison Square Garden - New York, NY

Bill Watts pinned Arnold Skaaland after a short lariat in 0:09:26.
Rating: **

Madison Square Garden shows always have that big time feel, and tonight was no different. Our opening contest was Bill Watts getting back to the winner's circle with a pinfall victory over Arnold Skaaland.

The Graham Brothers (Eddie Graham and Luke Graham) defeated The Minnesota Wrecking Crew (Gene Anderson and Ole Anderson) when L. Graham pinned O. Anderson with the Thumb to the Throat in 0:06:50.
Rating: ***

The Minnesota Wrecking Crew are in complete shambles right now. For a team that are both brothers and 2-time World Tag Team champions, it's sad to see it happen, but that's just how it goes sometimes. Luke & Eddie Graham had little trouble in the match tonight and took the win. After the match, Gene again snapped, going as far as slapping Ole, which may not have been the best idea. Ole looked livid and went after Gene, but Gene ran away in a hurry. The brothers have officially split up, and are even signed to wrestle each other on August 20 in the nation's capital.

Wahoo McDaniel pinned Dominic DeNucci after a small package in 0:12:13.
Rating: **

Another singles match for Dominic DeNucci that didn't quite turn out the way he wanted, this time falling prey to a small package and a handful of tights by Wahoo McDaniel. DeNucci is still trying to find his stride since returning to GCW.

Johnny Valentine pinned Tony Garea after a powerslam in 0:12:28.
Rating: ** 3/4

The honeymoon phase is over for Tony Garea. He had an impressive start to his career, but now that wrestlers have seen him in action, they are adjusting to him. Good evidence of this was veteran Johnny Valentine, who reversed Garea's High Cross Body into a powerslam to get the 1-2-3. Garea's going to have to mix it up a bit if he wants continued success.

Crusher & Bruiser (The Crusher and Dick the Bruiser) defeated The Half-Ton Team (Gorilla Monsoon and Haystacks Calhoun) when Bruiser made Calhoun submit to the Stomach Claw in 0:17:49.
Rating: * 1/2
[Lou Albano interfered against Gorilla Monsoon.]

Gorilla Monsoon & Haystacks Calhoun are not two men you want to make angry, but that is exactly what Dick the Bruiser & The Crusher did when they cost the Half-Ton Team the tag titles in the Lumberjack Match last month. The two teams met in tag team action here, and this was a great show of four large angry men beating the holy tar out of each other. It wasn't pretty, but the fans in Madison Square Garden didn't care a lick as they were on their feet for most of the match. The end came when referee Danny Bartfield was trying to separate Monsoon & The Crusher who were brawling on the floor. Inside the ring, Bruiser took that chain of his and waffled Calhoun in the gut with it, causing him to drop like a load of bricks. Bruiser put on the Stomach Claw, and with the added damage from the chain, made Calhoun submit. Bruiser & Crusher get the win, and we have learned that they will challenge for the World Tag Team Titles on August 20 in DC.

Karl Gotch defeated Baron Mikel Scicluna by disqualification in 0:09:48.
Rating: **
(Karl Gotch retained the GCW United States Title.)
[Lou Albano interfered against Karl Gotch.]

Lou Albano & Baron Mikel Scicluna have had a plan to get under United States champion Karl Gotch's skin, and I think it has worked. Tonight Gotch put the gold on the line against Scicluna, and Scicluna got himself disqualified for using foreign objects, one of the staples of his offense. Gotch lost his cool and went crazy, bouncing Scicluna around the ring after the match. Albano grabbed the mic and baited Gotch into a match on the 20th, but not just any match - it will be a streetfight! Gotch seems confident, but Albano will do anything to get his men championship gold. This could be a bad situation.

Baron Von Raschke defeated Billy Graham when Billy Graham passed out in the Claw in 0:05:38.
Rating: ** 1/4

Baron Von Raschke continues his reign of terror, but you have to admire Billy Graham for his guts. The youngster showed a lot of heart by not stepping down to Raschke, but like so many before, Graham fell to Raschke's deadly Claw. The Baron wouldn't release the hold after the match, and it was getting serious as Billy Graham stopped moving. This prompted LUKE GRAHAM to run out to save his brother. Luke floored Raschke with the Thumb to the Throat, knocking the monster backward and through the ropes to the floor. A singles match has been signed between these two behemoths for Washington, DC.

The Cripplers (Ray Stevens and Nick Bockwinkel) defeated Chief Jay Strongbow and Billy White Wolf when Bockwinkel pinned Strongbow with the Piledriver in 0:28:03.
Rating: *** 3/4
(The Cripplers retained the GCW World Tag Team Titles.)

The Cripplers' tag title reign is quickly approaching one year, setting them apart as one of the greatest tag team champions in GCW's 8-year history. Every team they face is bringing their A-game when they step into the ring with Ray Stevens & Nick Bockwinkel, as evidenced by the performance of Chief Jay Strongbow & Billy White Wolf tonight. The match went almost 30 minutes and was a real barn burner, but The Cripplers pulled it out to retain in the end.

Ernie Ladd and Stan Stasiak defeated Pedro Morales and Bruno Sammartino when Stan Stasiak pinned B. Sammartino with the Heart Punch in 0:29:20.
Rating: ***
[The Grand Wizard interfered against Pedro Morales.]
[Arnold Skaaland interfered against Ernie Ladd.]

Our main event was a huge tag team match pitting World champion Bruno Sammartino & his unexpected partner Pedro Morales taking on the Grand Wizard's charges of "King" Ernie Ladd & Stan "The Man" Stasiak. Morales has been petitioning for a World Title shot all year, so we were all surprised to see him come to Bruno's aid the last couple of shows. We learned exactly why he had been helping Bruno out - to stab him in the back. Sammartino & Morales looked like a great team through this match. Near the middle of the match, Ladd & Stasiak had Bruno in the ring for an extended period of time, inflicting a ton of punishment. When Bruno finally got some separation and crawled over for a tag, Morales dropped to the floor and walked to the back! As Morales left, he yelled, "Do I have your attention now, Sammartino!?" Bruno is a tough guy, but nobody can withstand the onslaught of Ladd & Stasiak by himself. Stasiak would hit the Heart Punch and get the pinfall. What a disgusting act by Pedro Morales!

Card rating: ** 3/4
