February 8, 1971 - Charlotte Coliseum - Charlotte, NC

The Cripplers (Ray Stevens and Nick Bockwinkel) defeated The Minnesota Wrecking Crew (Gene Anderson and Ole Anderson) when Bockwinkel pinned O. Anderson with the Piledriver in 0:12:35.
Rating: ***
(The Cripplers retained the GCW World Tag Team Titles.)

The World Tag Team Titles were up for grabs in our opening contest of the evening. The Minnesota Wrecking Crew hold a non-title victory over The Cripplers, and looked to duplicate that feat to become 3-time World Tag Team champions. Stevens & Bockwinkel took this challenge more seriously now that the gold was on the line, and were able to eke out a win over a team that knows them well and evenly matches up with them. An impressive defense for The Cripplers, but I'm sure the Andersons will be knocking on their door again soon.

Tony Garea pinned Lou Albano with the High Cross Body in 0:10:30.
Rating: * 3/4

Sometimes Lou Albano, who is primarily a manager, gets a little froggy and decides he wants to step in the ring. Albano came out and ran his lip, challenging anyone to come out and "get a whuppin'." Someone did, but we weren't exactly sure who it was. Albano laughed at this individual, demanding to know who the youngster was. The man introduced himself as TONY GAREA, and took no time in hitting Albano with a dropkick. Albano's mouth got him in trouble as he didn't know what to do with Garea, who caught him with a High Cross Body and picked up his first win in his GCW career. Albano isn't going to take this lightly, as he has said that Baron Mikel Scicluna will wrestle Garea next month on March 13 in Pittsburgh.

Two-out-of-three-Falls Match:
Pedro Morales beat Rocky Johnson 2 falls to 1:
x Morales beat R. Johnson via a small package in 0:13:24
x R. Johnson beat Morales via the Johnson Shuffle in 0:27:08
x Morales beat R. Johnson via the Boston Crab in 0:35:43
Rating: ***

Pedro Morales & Rocky Johnson still had some unfinished business after wrestling to a double countout last month, and they finished that business in a best two out of three falls match. Despite the animosity, both men kept themselves under control as these matches can turn into marathons very easily. Morales did a better job at this as he frustrated Johnson into making a mistake, getting the first fall when he rolled him up in a small package. At this point Morales turned it up, knowing he only needed one fall to get the win. Johnson showed great resilency in escaping pinfall after pinfall, affording him an opportunity to hit the Johnson Shuffle and evening the match at one fall apiece. Johnson had all the momentum and had Morales reeling until Morales was able to run Johnson's spine into the ring apron. Morales sadistically went to work on Rocky's back, leading up to the Boston Crab. Johnson's back had suffered too much damage and he had no choice but to submit. Morales said he wants a World Title shot, and this is a great first step.

Interview:
Wahoo McDaniel asks Chief Jay Strongbow to team with him tonight against the Grahams.

Wahoo McDaniel challenged Billy & Eddie Graham to a tag team match tonight, but we hadn't heard who is partner was going to be. Wahoo came out and called out his former partner, Chief Jay Strongbow, and asked him to be his partner. Strongbow said that they go way back and they're still friends, but he doesn't necessarily agree with what McDaniel is doing here against the Grahams. So, Strongbow respectfully declined. Wahoo didn't think this was the right answer as he jumped Strongbow and viciously attacked him, leaving him busted wide open. Wahoo grabbed a chair and looked like he was going to do more damage when a man ran out of the crowd and tackled him, sending him sprawling out of the ring. We later learned this man was BILLY WHITE WOLF, an old friend of Strongbow's. Wahoo vowed revenge on Wolf for ruining his plans.

Haystacks Calhoun pinned Bill Watts after a senton in 0:05:38.
Rating: * 3/4

Not a good night to be Bill Watts, that's for sure. Not only did he have to face Haystacks Calhoun in Calhoun's return match, but he had to face an ANGRY Calhoun in Calhoun's return match. Watts was aggressive in a testament to his competitiveness, but he couldn't move the 600-pound frame of Calhoun very easily. The Cowboy would be crushed with a senton and eat a defeat.

The Graham Brothers (Billy Graham and Eddie Graham) defeated Ernie Ladd and Wahoo McDaniel when B. Graham pinned Ernie Ladd after a lariat in 0:10:51.
Rating: ** 1/4

After his brutal attack on his former partner Chief Jay Strongbow earlier in the night, Wahoo needed a partner and fast. He picked a good one as he struck a deal with The Grand Wizard for Ernie Ladd to wrestle with him against the Grahams - Eddie & Billy. We haven't seen Eddie in a GCW ring in years, but it didn't look like he even missed a step, and he kept his younger brother Billy in check too, making the most of the young Superstar's raw power. I think Wahoo & Ladd expected to win this match in a walk, but when Billy rocked Ladd's jaw with a lariat right under the chin and got a flash pin, they were outraged. This has to be considered a major upset. The Grand Wizard has demanded that Ladd get a singles match with Billy Graham next month in Pittsburgh. Wahoo McDaniel, on the other hand, has a date with Billy White Wolf.

Karl Gotch pinned Johnny Valentine with the German Suplex in 0:13:54.
Rating: *** 1/4
(Karl Gotch retained the GCW United States Title.)

Johnny Valentine is entitled to one title rematch being the former United States champion, but unfortunately for him, the man he has to wrestle is the new champion Karl Gotch. Gotch has looked all but unstoppable since coming to GCW, and no one has shown any signs of being able to slow him down. Valentine tried a more aggressive technique this match, but the result was the same - Gotch remains undefeated and retains the US Title.

Crusher & Bruiser (The Crusher and Dick the Bruiser) and Baron Mikel Scicluna defeated Bobo Brazil, Bruno Sammartino and Peter Maivia when Bruiser pinned Brazil after hitting him with a chain in 0:22:23.
Rating: ***
[Arnold Skaaland interfered against Dick the Bruiser.]
[Lou Albano interfered against Bobo Brazil.]

We expected a great match in our main event 6-man tag team affair, but we never expected it to be so shocking. World champion Bruno Sammartino teamed with Bobo Brazil & Peter Maivia to take on Lou Albano's trio of Baron Mikel Scicluna, Dick the Bruiser, & The Crusher. The match featured a lot of bad blood and the wrestlers competed accordingly. We were shocked though when late in this grueling match while Brazil was in the ring with Dick the Bruiser, Maivia out of nowhere nailed Sammartino on the apron with a back elbow, knocking him to the floor. The High Chief went to the floor, scooped Bruno up, and slammed him hard on the concrete floor. Brazil saw this and went to question Maivia, only to be blindsided by a shot from Bruiser with a chain! Bruiser made the cover and Albano's charge stole a victory. Why in the world would Maivia do that to Sammartino? Regardless of his reasoning, Brazil is not happy about it and wants his former partner in the ring next month.

Card rating: ** 3/4
