January 30, 1965 - Paul Sauvé Arena - Montreal, QB, CA

Ray Stevens pinned Danny Hodge after a piledriver in 0:03:31.
Rating: ***

A lot of people were shocked at the result of our first match, not that Ray Stevens defeated Danny Hodge, but how quickly he hit so. Stevens is on top of his game right now as he hit a picture-perfect piledriver that rattled the amateur champion's brains, allowing the Blond Bomber the quick victory.

Haystacks Calhoun defeated Boris Malenko by countout in 0:05:22.
Rating: 1/2*
[Abdullah Farouk interfered against Haystacks Calhoun.]

Abdullah Farouk may have made a huge mistake in making an enemy out of Haystacks Calhoun. Calhoun is so big and so strong that he is a tough man to even get off his feet, let alone pin. Farouk and Boris Malenko realized that this wasn't going to turn out well for them and they wisely walked out for the countout loss.

Bill Watts and Johnny Valentine defeated Don Leo Jonathan and Pedro Morales when Watts pinned Morales with the Oklahoma Stampede in 0:13:27.
Rating: *** 3/4

Bill Watts & Johnny Valentine continue their winning ways over the makeshift team of Don Leo Jonathan & Pedro Morales. They are still petitioning for a shot at the World Tag Team Titles, and it could come sooner rather than later if they keep winning.

Argentina Apollo and Antonino Rocca defeated The Golden Grahams (Dr. Jerry Graham and Eddie Graham) when Rocca pinned E. Graham after a small package in 0:13:41.
Rating: ***
(Argentina Apollo and Antonino Rocca retained the GCW World Tag Team Titles.)
[Luke Graham interfered against Argentina Apollo.]

The Golden Grahams got the shot at the World Tag Team Titles that they wanted, and they brought a little surprise for the champions Antonino Rocca & Argentina Apollo. Even if they are the champs, Rocca & Apollo haven't teamed that much whereas Dr. Jerry & Eddie are brothers who have teamed together their entire lives. The Grahams controlled the pace of the match from the opening bell, and if it wasn't for a great counter move by Rocca catching Eddie Graham in a small package, we might have new tag team champions right now. After the match, we found out that there is a third Graham brother as LUKE GRAHAM made his debut by running out jumping Rocca & Apollo. The three Graham brothers stood tall over the World Tag Team champions.

Bruno Sammartino pinned Baron Mikel Scicluna after a piledriver in 0:16:56.
Rating: * 3/4

Thanks to the lumberjacks at ringside, Bruno Sammartino was finally able to get the better of Baron Mikel Scicluna, who had become a bit of a nemesis for him in the past couple months. Scicluna still managed to cheat at every possible juncture, and it looked like we were going to see another victory stolen away from Bruno. Sammartino showed great resiliency and fought back from the Baron's underhanded tactics, hitting a piledriver to get the 1-2-3.

Gorilla Monsoon and Killer Kowalski defeated Crusher & Bruiser (The Crusher and Dick the Bruiser) when Monsoon defeated Crusher by countout in 0:13:21.
Rating: 3/4*

Gorilla Monsoon & Killer Kowalski haven't gotten their rematch yet against Antonino Rocca & Argentina Apollo for the World Tag Team Titles, and that hasn't exactly made them happy. They have a stronger case for getting that title match after this countout victory over The Crusher & Dick the Bruiser. Just the same way they did to Miguel Perez, Monsoon & Kowalski went after The Crusher's back on the floor, driving him into the ringpost to get the countout victory.

Edouard Carpentier defeated Ernie Ladd by countout in 0:08:29.
Rating: * 3/4
(Ernie Ladd retained the GCW United States Title.)

The hometown hero Edouard Carpentier had the biggest match of his GCW career ahead of him as he (ironically) wrestled Ernie Ladd for the United States Title in front of the sold out Paul Sauvé Arena. The fans were on their feet cheering on Carpentier, who was filled with adrenaline. Ladd got his shots in, but he couldn't seem to hurt Carpentier for long. Not even Jack Davis was getting under the skin of Carpentier. Davis jumped up on the apron to distract Carpentier, but was quickly knocked to the floor by the Frenchman. Ladd went out to check on his manager and decided against getting back in the ring, taking the countout loss, but retaining his title. The fans nearly rioted as Ladd & Davis tried to get to the back surrounded by security. Carpentier was handed the US Title in order to keep the crowd under control, but he is NOT the US champion. However, there will be a return match in MSG on February 27th.

Bobo Brazil and Gene Kiniski battled to a double countout in 0:09:36.
Rating: * 1/4
[Abdullah Farouk interfered against Bobo Brazil.]

The battles between Bobo Brazil & Gene Kiniski continued as the two battled to a double countout. Will Bobo Brazil's issues with Abdullah Farouk ever be resolved?

Two-out-of-three-Falls Match:
Lou Thesz beat The Sheik 2 falls to 1:
x Sheik beat Thesz via a short lariat in 0:12:12
x Thesz beat Sheik via the STF in 0:17:03
x Thesz beat Sheik via a cradle suplex in 0:35:28
Rating: **** 1/4
(Lou Thesz retained the GCW World Title.)
[Abdullah Farouk interfered against Lou Thesz.]

Abdullah Farouk could still have a huge night as The Sheik had a shot to take the World Title from Lou Thesz in a best 2 of 3 falls match. Things looked even better for Farouk managing his first World champion when The Sheik took the first fall with a short lariat that jacked Thesz's jaw. Thesz didn't get discouraged though as he evened the score by locking The Sheik in the STF to get a quick submission victory. The match got hot and heavy from there as it was sudden death time. Thesz did what he does best and was methodically wearing The Sheik down with wrestling holds. Farouk had enough and tried to get involved, jumping up on the apron with a cane while referee Grizzly Jones was recovering from being struck in the eye. Farouk's cane shot was errant and struck The Sheik in the ribs, letting Thesz hit a cradle suplex to retain the World Title.

Card rating: ** 1/4
