June 13, 1970 - Boston Garden - Boston, MA

Nick Bockwinkel pinned Peter Maivia with the Piledriver in 0:17:24.
Rating: *** 1/2

Our opening contest was a singles match in a budding rivalry between Peter Maivia & Nick Bockwinkel. Bockwinkel has always been a great technical wrestler and a master cheater, but since developing the meanstreak he has taken his game to a whole new level. He showed that with his hard fought and well deserved victory over the High Chief, finishing him off after a poke to the eye and a devastating Piledriver.

[BLINDFOLD MATCH]:
Gorilla Monsoon defeated Baron Mikel Scicluna when Baron Mikel Scicluna passed out in a bearhug in 0:04:39.
Rating: * 1/4

This was a unique contest as for the first time ever in GCW, we had a blindfold match. Monsoon was still having trouble with his vision thanks to Baron Mikel Scicluna spraying something in his eyes last month. Both men were blindfolded in this match which led to an interesting contest. There were some near misses with Monsoon trying to get a hold of Scicluna, but couldn't quite find him. Scicluna of course tried to cheat a couple of times by having his blindfold "accidentally" come off and taking a cheap shot at Monsoon. Once Monsoon got a hold of Scicluna though, he locked on a vicious bearhug and refused to let go, getting a victory by submission.

The Minnesota Wrecking Crew (Gene Anderson and Ole Anderson) defeated Miguel Perez and Tim Woods when G. Anderson made T. Woods submit to a full nelson in 0:04:39.
Rating: ***

The Minnesota Wrecking Crew were told by Ray Stevens that they were getting soft and that if they wanted to stay a part of the Cripplers, they were going to have to start "crippling people" again. Unfortunately for Miguel Perez & Tim Woods, they were caught in the wake of the Andersons. Gene Anderson wanted to get a submission victory, so hitting Woods with the Piledriver wasn't enough. Gene locked on a full nelson after and got Woods to give up.

Johnny Valentine pinned Thunderbolt Patterson with the Figure-Four Leglock in 0:16:50.
Rating: **
(Johnny Valentine retained the GCW United States Title.)

Johnny Valentine was expecting an easy US Title defense against Thunderbolt Patterson, but he got anything but that as Thunderbolt was amped up and ready to win his first championship. Valentine thought he could outdo Patterson on the mat, but Patterson showed he has some skills in mat wrestling as he matched the champ hold for hold. Patterson had built a lot of momentum but he missed wildly on the Thunderbolt Right, letting Valentine clip his leg and lock on the Figure-Four Leglock. Patterson couldn't take the pain and was pinned in the hold.

Bobo Brazil pinned Ray Stevens with the Coco Butt in 0:02:10.
Rating: ** 1/2

Bobo Brazil showed that he doesn't get paid by the hour as he took it right to his hated enemy Ray Stevens, surprisingly him by attacking him before the bell rang and finishing him off with the Coco Butt in just over 2 minutes. NICK BOCKWINKEL joined Stevens in a post-match beatdown of Brazil, only to have PETER MAIVIA come down and clear the ring. GCW officials have decided that this feud is getting too intense and wants to settle it in Atlantic City next month, signing a tag team match to be held inside a steel cage!

Karl Gotch pinned The Crusher with the German Suplex in 0:15:36.
Rating: *** 1/2

Karl Gotch got a lot of media attention after his decisive debut victory over Boris Malenko last month. The Crusher said he didn't want to hear it and was going to end this fad before it even started. It didn't quite work out that way as despite hitting Gotch with every power move he could think of, the great technician Gotch fought out of it all, hit the German Suplex, and pushed his record to 2-0.

Pedro Morales defeated Bill Watts by disqualification in 0:04:23.
Rating: * 3/4

Pedro Morales got his first chance one-on-one against Bill Watts since Watts turned on him a couple months ago, and it was brutal for the Cowboy. It didn't take long for Watts to realize that he wasn't going to stop the fiery Puerto Rican tonight and had JOHNNY VALENTINE run in to cause the disqualification. Much like we saw last month, DORY FUNK JR. came in to make the save, but got hit with a few cheap shots by Watts & Valentine before they bailed to the back. Though the save was noble, it may have an adverse effect on Dory going into his World Tag Team Titles shot in our next match.

Chief Jay Strongbow and Wahoo McDaniel defeated The Funk Brothers (Terry Funk and Dory Funk Jr.) when Strongbow defeated D. Funk Jr. when D. Funk Jr. passed out in the Indian Deathlock in 0:06:52.
Rating: *** 3/4
(Chief Jay Strongbow and Wahoo McDaniel retained the GCW World Tag Team Titles.)

The crowd in Boston was absolutely stunned at what went down in this World Tag Team Title match. The Funk Brothers had a golden opportunity to hold the championship for a second time and early on looked to be on top of their game. Quick tags, good double team offense, the whole lot. And then out of nowhere, Terry Funk blasted Dory Funk Jr. in the back of the head with a branding iron when he hit the ropes! Dory was out cold and easy prey to Strongbow's Indian Deathlock. Terry Funk has turned his back on his own flesh and blood, and the questions remains: Why?

Bruno Sammartino pinned Gene Kiniski after a cross-body block in 0:22:07.
Rating: *** 1/2

Our main event saw Bruno Sammartino wrestling the man who took the World Title from him back in 1966 and sent him out of Global Championship Wrestling for over 3 years, Gene Kiniski. You know that what Kiniski did to him has been eating at Bruno these last few years and he was out for revenge. Bruno came at Kiniski with everything he had, but Kiniski rode the wave and dished out just as much as he took. As the match went on, it began to look like maybe Kiniski just has Bruno's number and he can't beat him. If it wasn't for a great counter by Bruno, maybe he couldn't beat him, but Sammartino reversed a back suplex attempt into a cross-body block to get a flash pin and best Kiniski. Kiniski wasn't down long, getting back to his feet and giving Bruno a beating like we've never seen. Kiniski's attack focused on Bruno's ribs, repeatedly hitting his Backbreaker signature move and finishing up by cracking a wooden chair on Bruno. Lou Albano got on the microphone and said that if Bruno wants his World Title shot against Luke Graham, he has to take it on July 11th in Atlantic City… whether he is injured or not!

Card rating: ***

Match observations:

The match we have all been waiting for will finally take place in Atlantic City on July 11th! In addition to that big World Title match, we are going to see a great night of wrestling.
