June 28, 1969 - Fenway Park Supershow - Boston, MA

Boris Malenko pinned Johnny Valentine with the Russian Sickle in 0:15:44.
Rating: ** 3/4

Johnny Valentine suffered a tough loss in our opening contest here at Fenway Park in front of the sold out stadium, falling victim to Boris Malenko and his Russian Sickle. Valentine is said to be suffering from a lack of focus, and he is going to spend the next few weeks trying to get back on track.

The Minnesota Wrecking Crew (Gene Anderson and Ole Anderson) defeated Chief Jay Strongbow and Wahoo McDaniel when G. Anderson pinned Wahoo with the Piledriver in 0:22:57.
Rating: ** 1/4

As the Minnesota Wrecking Crew works to get another chance at the World Tag Team Titles while in association with Ray Stevens, they got through a very tough task tonight by defeating Chief Jay Strongbow & Wahoo McDaniel. It was no walk in the park, but the experience as a team proved dividends for the MWC as they pick up the victory.

Pedro Morales defeated The Sheik when The Princess threw in the towel in 0:19:29.
Rating: * 1/4
(Pedro Morales won the GCW United States Title.)
[The Princess interfered against Pedro Morales.]

Pedro Morales' long hard road in GCW has finally paid off in a big way as tonight in front of 45,000 people, he has won his first singles championship, defeating The Sheik to become the United States champion! Morales has been chasing The Sheik for weeks and he was finally able to break through here. After a brutal match as most of The Sheik's are, Morales looked beat when he was trapped in the Camel Clutch. Something snapped in him though as he was seeing his long journey ending in another disappointing defeat. Morales mustered up the strength to fight out of the Camel Clutch and took over the match, ultimately getting The Sheik in the Boston Crab. Morales wrenched back, and The Princess wasn't wanting to see her man in so much pain, submitted for her man. Congrats to the new champ!

The Brisco Brothers (Jerry Brisco and Jack Brisco) defeated Dominic DeNucci and Victor Rivera when Jack Brisco pinned Rivera with the Figure-Four Leglock in 0:24:08.
Rating: *** 3/4

Dominic DeNucci & Victor Rivera suffered another loss tonight, this time at the hands of the Brisco Brothers, who look to be back on track. DeNucci & Rivera have been subjected to murmurs that their title run earlier this year was simply a fluke and they aren't on the same level as the other teams in GCW. They will be looking to turn that around in coming months.

Ray Stevens pinned Thunderbolt Patterson with the Bombs Away Kneedrop in 0:15:05.
Rating: ** 1/2

Thunderbolt Patterson has tasted his first defeat in a GCW ring, but it wasn't without controversy as he faced Ray Stevens. Stevens went from being one of the most popular wrestlers in GCW to one of the most hated, and his association with the Minnesota Wrecking Crew doesn't help matters much. Patterson looked to have this one all wrapped up when he hit the Thunderbolt Right, but GENE & OLE ANDERSON placed Stevens' foot on the bottom rope out of the view of referee Dick Kroll. While Thunderbolt yelled at the MWC to get out of there, Stevens clipped his knee from behind, went to the top, and hit the Bombs Away Kneedrop to steal the duke.

Gene Kiniski made Nick Bockwinkel submit to a front facelock in 0:06:23.
Rating: *** 1/2

Nick Bockwinkel must spend every day of his life regretting the moment he made The Sheik angry. The Sheik was already in a foul mood from losing the United States Title earlier, so he decided to take it out on Bockwinkel, who was scheduled to wrestle Gene Kiniski. The Sheik attacked Bockwinkel during his ring entrance, throwing him into the guardrail and bodyslamming him on the concrete floor before officials broke it up! To Bockwinkel's credit, he got into the ring to wrestle the match but he was no match for the former World champion, who made short work of the braggadocios wrestler.

Strap Match:
Ernie Ladd defeated Peter Maivia in 0:31:10.
Rating: *** 3/4

There was a lot of hatred involved in this match between Peter Maivia & Ernie Ladd, and the fact that it was made into a strap match made the situation even more dangerous. For over 30 minutes, two big bad men beat the holy crap out of each other with a leather strap, resulting in both men being covered in welts and bruises by the end of it. To make matters even worse, the fight spilled to the outside late, and that's where the High Chief made his mistake. He attempted to throw Ladd into the ring post, but the King reversed it and Maivia was busted open on the cold hard steel. Ladd dragged the unconscious Maivia back into the ring, touched the four corners, and won a brutal affair. After Maivia gathered his thoughts, in a great show of sportsmanship, Maivia offered Ladd a handshake. The two had been through a war, and even though the High Chief doesn't like Ladd, the King earned his respect tonight. Ladd accepted the handshake, only to headbutt Maivia and drop him with the Boot to the Face. Could this guy get any more disgusting?

The Funk Brothers (Terry Funk and Dory Funk Jr.) defeated Crusher & Bruiser (The Crusher and Dick the Bruiser) when T. Funk defeated Crusher by disqualification in 0:08:12.
Rating: ***
(Crusher & Bruiser retained the GCW World Tag Team Titles.)
[The Cripplers interfered against Terry Funk.]

The Cripplers are showing that they are willing to do anything and everything to make sure they prove their points. The Minnesota Wrecking Crew have been causing a stir backstage with complaints that they haven't received a title rematch after losing the titles to DeNucci & Rivera back in April, and were directing most of that frustration toward the Funk Brothers who got the title shot tonight against Dick the Bruiser & The Crusher. Ray Stevens & the Andersons didn't care much about the Funks want to regain the gold as the trio attacked Dory Jr. & Terry, resulting in this match being thrown out. The Cripplers were beating down the Funks until THUNDERBOLT PATTERSON intervened to even the odds. Lou Albano, Dick the Bruiser & The Crusher just looked on with huge smiles as the 6 men brawled to the back. A 6-man tag match has been signed for July 12th at Madison Square Garden!

Luke Graham pinned Bobo Brazil with the Thumb to the Throat in 0:18:40.
Rating: **
(Luke Graham retained the GCW World Title.)
[Lou Albano interfered against Bobo Brazil.]

It was time for the big one - Bobo Brazil getting his chance to take back the World Title from the man who beat him for it and has terrorized GCW, Luke Graham. We have never seen emotion like this before in a match as the history between Graham & Brazil is well documented. The packed Fenway Park was solidly behind Brazil, wanting to see him regain the championship that he so proudly wore for almost 2 years. Despite all of that support and Brazil's will to win, he fell just short here as Albano's tripping up of the challenger was all the champ needed to hit the Thumb to the Throat and retain the title.

Card rating: ** 3/4

Match observations:

We are going to see a lot of Madison Square Garden in the coming weeks, starting on Independence Day for the first annual Grand Prix tournament! This 32-man tournament is a worldwide event, as wrestlers from all over the world will take part in this 3-day, once-every-4-years event.
