May 23, 1964 - Madison Square Garden - New York, NY

Ray Stevens pinned Pedro Morales with the Bombs Away Kneedrop in 0:11:32.
Rating: ***

This was Ray Stevens' first match since losing the mask he was wearing, and he came out with more fire against Pedro Morales like he had something to prove. The Blond Bomber was able to survive Morales' Latin temper and hit the Bombs Away Kneedrop to tip the scales in this feud somewhat. Morales was said to not be happy with the result and has challenged Stevens to a Strap Match for next month's show in Charlotte, North Carolina!

Gorilla Monsoon defeated Argentina Apollo when Argentina Apollo passed out in the Airplane Spin in 0:12:50.
Rating: * 3/4

Argentina Apollo may regret having attacked Gorilla Monsoon a month ago after this match here. Apollo had the will, but he couldn't match the mammoth size of the Monster From Manchuria. Monsoon would lock him in the Airplane Spin which caused Apollo to pass out and lose the match. Monsoon wasn't done though as he wanted to send a message to Antonino Rocca by hitting him with a bodyslam and a big splash. That wasn't enough still as Monsoon grabbed a chair from ringside and delivered another splash on Apollo, this time with the aid of a chair! Apollo had to be taken out on a stretcher and it will be quite some time before we see him again.

Haystacks Calhoun defeated Ernie Ladd by countout in 0:05:47.
Rating: 3/4*
(Ernie Ladd retained the GCW United States Title.)

Ernie Ladd was not happy when Haystacks Calhoun made his GCW debut last month by punching him in the jaw to answer an open challenge, but he was even more unhappy to have to defend the United States Title against him in Calhoun's debut match. Calhoun weighs in at over 600 pounds and is a mountain of a man and throws his weight around. Ladd did what he could but Calhoun had the better of him at every turn. Calhoun had the Big Cat down and ready for his tremendous Big Splash, but Ladd saw him coming and wisely rolled out of the ring and headed to the back for a countout. The crowd booed Ladd out of the building, but he is still the United States champion. He may not be come next month as he has to wrestle Calhoun one more time - in a Lumberjack match! There will be no escaping in Charlotte.

The Golden Grahams (Eddie Graham and Dr. Jerry Graham) defeated Crusher & Bruiser (The Crusher and Dick the Bruiser) when E. Graham pinned Bruiser with the Atomic Kneedrop in 0:17:02.
Rating: ** 3/4

With a guaranteed shot at the World Tag Team Titles coming up, the last thing Dick the Bruiser & The Crusher wanted to do was suffer a big loss. Unfortunately for them, Dr. Jerry Graham & Eddie Graham didn't care much about whether or not Bruiser & Crusher lost a match. In their biggest win to date, the Golden Grahams picked up the clean win over the #1 contenders when Eddie pinned Dick the Bruiser when he caught him with the Atomic Kneedrop. This has to put the Grahams right near the top of the tag team discussion.

Bruno Sammartino pinned Killer Kowalski after a powerslam in 0:18:21.
Rating: ****

Bruno Sammartino had his focus back for this match against Killer Kowalski. The two men know each other quite well and beat the tar out of each other, but Kowalski making a trip to the top rope cost him as Bruno reversed it into a powerslam t get the 3 count. Sammartino still has a lot of unfinished business with Bill Watts to tend to.

Lou Thesz made Freddie Blassie submit to a kneelock submission in 0:06:59.
Rating: **** 1/4
(Lou Thesz retained the GCW World Title.)

"Classy" Freddie Blassie sure talked a big game on the house mic before his World Title match against Lou Thesz, but when the match started, Thesz was clearly unaffected by Blassie's lip service and made short work of the veteran, making him tap out to a kneelock submission. Thesz's World Title reign, and therefore career, lives on for at least one more month.

Don Leo Jonathan, Edouard Carpentier and Bobo Brazil defeated The Madmen (Abdullah the Butcher and The Sheik) and Gene Kiniski when Brazil pinned Kiniski after a piledriver in 0:04:53.
Rating: * 3/4

Nobody expected the 6-man tag team match to end as quickly as it did, but Bobo Brazil picked some good partners in Don Leo Jonathan & Edouard Carpentier. They were able to neutralize The Sheik & Abdullah the Butcher long enough for Brazil to drive Gene Kiniski's head into the canvas with a mighty piledriver to get the 1-2-3. Abdullah Farouk was livid after the match and has sworn to get even with all three of the fan favorites.

Bill Watts and Johnny Valentine defeated Antonino Rocca and Miguel Perez when Watts pinned Perez after a powerslam in 0:22:43.
Rating: *** 1/2
(Bill Watts and Johnny Valentine won the GCW World Tag Team Titles.)

The undefeated streak and World Tag Team Title reign of Antonino Rocca & Miguel Perez is over! We have brand new tag team champions! Bill Watts said he had a partner that was "far superior" to Bruno Sammartino, and he revealed that partner to be Johnny Valentine. Watts & Valentine had great chemistry and a great game plan, but Rocca & Perez had no intentions of lying down and just handing over the titles. It would take a distraction by GORILLA MONSOON to seal their fate. Monsoon came down to ringside late in the match and taunted Rocca. Rocca had enough and went after Monsoon, brawling with him all the way to the locker room. Unfortunately for Miguel Perez, Rocca's temper left him all alone and prone to a double team attack from Watts & Valentine. The assault ended with a powerslam from the Cowboy and we have new tag team champions for the first time in GCW history.
